"Oh, what a mighty cheer must have gone up from the governing federal
Conservatives when Liberal Leader Stephane Dion revealed plans to impose
a carbon tax should he ever become prime minister. The chance of that
happening has all but disappeared.

It doesn't help that Dion's credibility already is pretty much shot. He
ran for the Liberal leadership as the environmental candidate after
presiding as Jean Chretien's environment minister over carbon emissions
that went nowhere but up. Until recently, he said repeatedly and
unequivocally that he would never impose a carbon tax, that it's "bad
policy." Now he's making it the centrepiece of his next election
campaign precisely at a time when Canadians are wondering how much
longer they can afford to drive to work and to heat their homes.

Canada, in case Dion hasn't noticed, is distinguished by its great size
and its long, cold winters. Getting around and staying warm are the
major challenges for anyone who lives here. The role of government
should be to make these things easier. Instead, Dion wants to make them
more expensive. He's like an opposition leader from the Bizarro World,
where everyone does the opposite of what we expect."

So now Dion wants to impose a carbon tax, even though he adamantly
refused to commit to such a thing in the past? Interesting.

Dion is proving to be his worst enemy. Raising the tax load? And that
idiot MP wanting to help China...give me a break. Liberals are fiscally
irresponsible bunch.

And wanting to tax us more? Screw him. Not that Harper isn't, gross
government revenue has never been higher. But this government liberal
spend crazy stuff has to stop.

Dion wants elected, promise a 20% tax cut and if not realized, a
contractual agreement with Canadians if we don't get it in 6 months, back
to a re-election. Otherwise Dion should just hope his fat government
pension comes through (and I am sure it will).
